Add strawberries to a saucepan with 2 cups water. Bring to boil, then lower to simmer for 20 minutes. Strain into another saucepan through a fine mesh sieve. Do not push down on the berries. Discard berries. To the liquid add 1 cup of sugar, return to heat and bring to gentle boil, stirring until all sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
Fill tall glass with ice, 1 ounce gin, 3 tablespoons strawberry simple syrup and fill with tonic water. Stir.

You can also use bottled strawberry syrup instead of homemade.
