These sweet Maple Pecan Tarts are a variation of our favourite Canadian Butter Tart. Sweet and going filling with crunchy pecans all nestled in a buttery crust.
12premade frozen tart shells or your favourite homemade pastry shells
1/2cupunsalted buttercubed
1cupbrown sugar
1/2cuppure maple syrup
2eggs
1tablespoonfresh lemon juice
1teaspoonvanilla extract
pinchof salt
1/2 to 3/4cuppecan halves
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees and arrange shells on parchment paper lined baking sheet. If you are using homemade pastry, line 12 muffin tins with pastry
In a medium saucepan melt butter and brown sugar, heating over medium heat until bubbly
In a large (at least 4 cup) measuring cup or bowl with a pour spout, whisk together maple syrup, eggs, lemon juice, vanilla and salt
Slowly whisk the butter mixture into the maple syrup mixture, whisking until well combined
Place 4 to 5 pecan halves in each tart shell. Pour filling over the pecans until each shell is almost full.
Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 375 degrees and continue baking for 15 additional minutes
