Maple Pecan Tarts

These sweet Maple Pecan Tarts are a variation of our favourite Canadian Butter Tart. Sweet and going filling with crunchy pecans all nestled in a buttery crust.

Ingredients
  

  • 12 premade frozen tart shells or your favourite homemade pastry shells
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cubed
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup pecan halves

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees and arrange shells on parchment paper lined baking sheet. If you are using homemade pastry, line 12 muffin tins with pastry
  • In a medium saucepan melt butter and brown sugar, heating over medium heat until bubbly
  • In a large (at least 4 cup) measuring cup or bowl with a pour spout, whisk together maple syrup, eggs, lemon juice, vanilla and salt
  • Slowly whisk the butter mixture into the maple syrup mixture, whisking until well combined
  • Place 4 to 5 pecan halves in each tart shell. Pour filling over the pecans until each shell is almost full.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 375 degrees and continue baking for 15 additional minutes
  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
