Thanksgiving Harvest Tablescape

While our Canadian Thanksgiving was weeks ago, I am delighted to be sharing my Thanksgiving Harvest Tablescape for all my US friends who will be celebrating in a few short weeks!

Grab a cuppa and settle in for some wonderful inspiration! I am joining 16 blogging friends who are sharing their Thanksgiving table decor! Big thanks to Rita from Panoply who brings us together to share in our love for tablescaping. You will find links to all the fabulous tables at the bottom of this post!

As I have been doing so often this year when setting a table for a special occasion or holiday, I am keeping things simple. I shopped my home for all the elements that I used, and what I didn’t already have, I picked up at the Farmer’s market!

I had an overall vision of how I wanted the table to look, but it wasn’t until I started look through my “stash” that it really came together.

How to Style a Thanksgiving Harvest Tablescape

I used my simple gold charger plates, a previous purchase from Dollar Tree, as the base of the plate stack.

My favourite white bead edged dinner and salad plates you may recognize from this previous Thanksgiving tablescape are topped with one of my favourite autumn napkins.

A frosted gold marbled dessert plate is the finishing touch.

My simple gold flatware compliments the gold veining in the dessert plates. Wine goblets passed down from my grandmother are filled with red wine from a local winery, Fielding Estates. I love how the red wine ties in with the dark purple grapes and Burgundy mums in the centrepiece.

Since I had just made a batch of my chocolate coffee cupcakes, I couldn’t resist seeing how they looked on the dessert plates.

I opted not to use any placemats or table covering, again with simplicity in mind. I also like how the grey/blue tones in the tabletop compliment the napkins. Plus, I wanted the centrepiece to take centre stage.

The purple veining in the beet greens made them an easy choice. Not only are they healthy, but pretty too! We have an amazing organic farmer at our local market who takes great pride in growing healthy beautiful produce.

My go-to gold candlesticks add a bit of charm and warm glow and ambiance when they are lit.

How to Make A Centrepiece for Thanksgiving

  • start with a low long dough bowl or place a protective sheet of plastic along the centre of the table
  • layer fresh beet green leaves, kale or other large leaf greenery along the length of the bowl starting at each end and facing stems towards the centre
  • tuck smaller greens into the bowl so that they overhang and hide the edges
  • place a large pumpkin in the centre, and arrange a variety of apples, pears, pomegranates, tangerines with stems attached, and dark purple grapes along the greens, tucking some along side nestling them into the greens
  • add small ornamental cabbage to each end
  • tuck small flowers into any open spaces

3 Simple Steps to a Simple Thanksgiving Tablescape

Creating a festive Thanksgiving tablescape doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated.

Simple white plates can easily be dressed up with a colourful napkin and inexpensive dessert plates.

Centrepieces can be created with grocery store flowers or produce (that you can eat after!).

And, 2 or 3 brass candle sticks create visual interest and ambience. (Check your local thrift stores if you don’t already have some)

I hope you have enjoyed my Thanksgiving Harvest Tablescape! Not only did I a spend very little money, but we get to eat the centrepiece! Well, except for the faux pumpkin!

  6. Maureen, you’ve styled a very inviting tablescape, one to enjoy at both Thanksgiving celebrations! Of course I was drawn to the lovely napkins with their soft fall colors (being a table linen fan). The bold colors of the centerpiece brings the gorgeous sights of fall indoors.
