Festive DIY Christmas Card Holder
For several years I have used an old white shutter as a Christmas card holder. I have put zero thought into it, and just plunked the cards through the rungs and eventually the plain white shutter was covered in decorative Christmas cards. Not exactly festive or pretty!
This year I looked at my sad, boring thrift store shutter and decided it needed (and deserved) to a whole new look!
Today, thanks to Remodelaholic bringing together a great collection of DIY Christmas craft ideas, I am sharing in the Creative Christmas fun with a group of equally enthusiastic bloggers who are sharing some fun DIY Christmas crafts, complete with a playlist of video tutorials!

Before you visit all the fun projects, here is an easy step by step photo tutorial to create your own upcycled shutter Christmas card holder!
I purchased a large bunch of faux evergreen stems flocked with white and silver. It was $20 but used a 50% off coupon and got it for $10. I still have some branches leftover for another project.
My shutter was already painted white, so I just sanded lightly and then added two coats of paint.
A good set of wire cutters are a great investment! I have ruined countless pairs of scissors trying to cut through thick floral stems!
And, that is all here is to it! An easy upcycle project that makes the perfect place to display your holiday greeting cards this Christmas!
Now, you can visit each project by clicking the links above or you can check out the Youtube playlist below see the video tutorials!
Until next time……
What a creative way to make an old shutter into Christmas decor, Maureen! I love the idea of using it for a card holder. It’s perfect for that!
What a cute idea and a great upcycle Christmas project!
Love this idea!
The shutter card holder is a great idea, I love how you dressed it up this season.
Love this idea! I have a shutter I can use too!
So beautiful, Maureen! Thanks for joining Creative Christmas!
Love this! I’m looking forward to making this creative cardholder this Christmas season. Question, is there any particular reason you chose to use chalkboard paint?
